Introduction
SFA is a web and mobile-based field-sales automation solution that enabled the organization to monitor and manage a geographically distributed sales team. Sales representatives used a dedicated mobile app in the field, while supervisors, managers and administrators used a companion web application to monitor and manage the wider sales operation. The platform supported customer and visit management, mobile order processing, product and inventory monitoring, sales forecasting, employee performance tracking, customer evaluation, reporting and management dashboards — giving management real-time visibility into field activity while integrating with the organization's ERP system for a seamless exchange of customer, product, inventory and sales information.
Problem
Field sales teams operating across different customers and territories were difficult to support and monitor with paper-based, disconnected processes. Visits, orders and customer feedback were captured manually, with no real-time visibility into who was visiting which customer, what stock or pricing applied, or how actual sales were tracking against targets. Management lacked a single view of field activity, performance and forecasting, and sales data wasn't connected to the organization's ERP system, leading to duplicate data entry and delayed, less-informed decisions.
Solution
SFA pairs a sales-representative mobile app with a manager/administrator web application, connected through a shared backend and ERP integration. In the field, representatives view their assigned customers, plan and record visits with GPS-based check-in/check-out, capture notes and feedback, and create and submit orders against live product and pricing information — all with offline support so the app keeps working without connectivity and syncs automatically once it's back, retrying failed syncs and handling conflicts where data changed on the server. On the web side, managers and supervisors monitor field activity and salesperson locations, assign customers, territories and routes, approve or reject orders, and track sales targets against actual performance. Sales forecasting and analytics dashboards surface trends by product, customer, territory and salesperson, while employee-performance tracking turns visit, order and sales data into objective KPIs. The system exchanges customer, product, pricing, stock and sales data with the organization's ERP in both directions, and role-based access scopes what each type of user — sales representative, supervisor, manager, inventory/operations, administrator — can see and do, with notifications keeping everyone informed of approvals, assignments, stock and follow-ups.
Technologies and Tools:
👉 Web Application: C#, ASP.NET, DevExpress
👉 Mobile Application: Xamarin
👉 Database: SQL Server
👉 Reporting: DevExpress XtraReports
👉 Integration: REST/SOAP APIs for ERP synchronization
👉 Field Monitoring: GPS-based location and route tracking
Process
To ensure the successful delivery of SFA across both the mobile and web applications, we followed a structured, iterative development process.
Requirements & Design:👉 Field & Office Analysis: Analyzed how sales representatives operated in the field and how managers monitored and supported them, to shape the mobile and web feature sets separately.
👉 Iterative Development: Delivered customer/visit management, order processing, forecasting and ERP integration incrementally, validating each against real sales workflows.
👉 Mobile & Web Development: Built the sales-representative mobile app and the manager/administrator web application on a shared backend.
👉 Offline Testing: Verified offline order creation, local data storage and auto-sync behaviour, including conflict handling, under poor-connectivity conditions.
👉 ERP Integration Testing: Verified two-way data exchange with the organization's ERP for customers, products, pricing, stock and sales.
👉 Sales & Operations Collaboration: Worked with sales and operations stakeholders to align customer, territory, target and approval workflows with how the field sales team actually operated.
👉 Rollout Support: Supported deployment and adoption of the mobile app by field sales representatives alongside the web application for management.
Key Functionalities
Customer & Visit Management:Sales representatives view assigned customers, plan and record visits with GPS check-in/check-out, capture notes and feedback, and review visit and order history.
Mobile Order Processing:Create orders in the field against live product catalogues and customer-specific pricing, submit for approval and track order status, including offline order creation.
Sales Management & Territory Assignment:Managers assign customers, territories and routes to representatives, set sales targets, and approve or reject submitted orders from the web application.
GPS-Based Field Monitoring:Tracks salesperson locations, visit verification and route/territory coverage, giving management real-time visibility into field activity.
Sales Forecasting & Analytics:Dashboards and reports covering sales trends, target vs. actual achievement, and product-, customer- and territory-wise performance.
Employee Performance Tracking:Turns visit counts, orders generated, sales value and target achievement into objective KPIs for evaluating field sales staff.
ERP Integration:Two-way synchronization with the organization's ERP — customer, product, pricing and stock data flow in, while new customers, orders, visits and sales transactions flow back out.
Offline Capability & Notifications:The mobile app works without connectivity and auto-syncs when back online, while role-based notifications keep representatives and managers informed of assignments, approvals, stock and follow-ups.
Responsibilities
Application Development:👉 Mobile App: Developed the sales-representative mobile application covering customer/visit management, GPS check-in/check-out, product catalogue browsing and order creation.
